Asphalt Transfer Vehicle/Paver Speed Synchronization and Position Control Project

Our team is composed of three electrical engineering students, all with an emphasis in control theory. Perhaps that is why it's little surprise that we each chose this project as our first pick; it is a controls project. We have varied backgrounds and bring different talents to the effort. We function well as a team with good attitudes, a strong work ethic, and a pragmatic approach to solving problems.

Jeremy Evans worked as a professional industrial and commercial electrician for 16 years before deciding to change his career path and pursue an engineering degree. During that time he discovered his passion for controls and automation. He has a second degree emphasis in power distribution, another interest found during his previous career. During his time at ISU, he has interned at the Bridgestone Firestone agricultural tire plant in Des Moines where he has contributed to the design of controls systems for several machines and processes.

Joseph Pins grew up on a 70 cow dairy farm near Dubuque, Iowa. In 2010, he graduated from high school and started pursuing an electrical engineering major with a control systems emphasis. During his time at Iowa State, he obtained an undergraduate research position with the Center for Sustainable Environmental Technologies (CSET) where he greatly utilized his mechanical background and undergraduate degree. He is currently co-designing a control system from scratch for a new alternative fuels research project with CSET.
